To Be a Wedding Photographer

My first steps into the wedding industry began on Guam, USA. The island’s primary industry is tourism. While living there I found myself working as a camera operator at a venue for destination weddings. Primarily controlling remote operated cameras, I would also do traditional camera work as a videographer. This persisted for up to 8 weddings a day 4 to 5 days a week during the the last 3 years I lived on Guam.

Upon moving back to the US Mainland, I sought to pick back up as a videographer. During an interview for a videographer position at a wedding media company, I was asked a pointed question, “What are you passionate about?” My soon to be mentor at A&A Video had gone through my portfolio of work and noticed that, while I had technically been a videographer for hundreds of weddings, my portfolio heavily skewed towards photography, though devoid of wedding content. True enough, I’ve always preferred photography, and they wanted to take me on to their photography side to let me explore what my passion could bring to a new subject.

While these days I only freelance wedding photography for close friends without the means to budget it into their plans, jumping into wedding photography was easily one of the most fulfilling moves I’ve made in my career.
